The Minimal Art current that emerged in the US during the nineteen-sixties (Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Sol Lewitt, etc...) had such a big impact that is is usually seen as a purely American phenomenon based on abstraction, constructivism and formal reduction. But the origin of minimalist procedures also borrows from the sources of the abstract and constructivist tendencies of 20th century Europe (especially from southern Germany), and there is a great deal of parallelism between the two...
